The project examines data collected during the FAB project. Specifically, the project takes a detailed analytical approach to free speech data collected using a picture description paradigm (stimuli available here: https://osf.io/shwcn/). Using this data, the project examines measures of speech complexity, articulation rate, pause duration and frequency, and utterance structure to answer questions about speech production and ageing as well as differences between monolingual and bilingual samples. A second aim of the project is to relate these variables to measures of individual differences of which an extensive set is available for the participants. To accomplish such analyses, given the large nature of the sample (over 300 participants) the project takes a detailed approach to automating the transcription and segmentation of the speech samples. Lastly, the data will be formatted into a speech-across-the-lifespan database and an accompanying corpus for open access. This will include transcriptions, linguistic markers, pause markers, duration information, as well as frequency data related to the words used by the participants.
